I am a Stanford Computer Science major from Las Vegas!
I differentiated myself by exploring my passions in a deep, demonstrable way rather than just stacking APs or joining standard clubs. I created tangible projects, such as an anti-vaping campaign and a movie review website, to show admissions officers that I truly cared about my interests.
I recommend using summers to realize technical interests. I secured a research position by cold-emailing local professors and later attended the Garcia Summer Research Program, which became a fundamental part of my application.
Be strategic about which APs you take. I prioritized hard CS and math classes relevant to my major while avoiding high-workload classes that didn't align with my future goals. I also found that many AP exams are manageable through self-study if you have strong reading and writing skills.
